More monogram logo work today. Couldn’t really get away from it. Went back to the whole peeling letters look, so I spent a lot of time studying light and shadow.
I made paper versions of the L and the V and placed a light slightly to the top and left of them. I observed how the shadows and highlights looked when I curled them. Then I spent the afternoon trying to recreate these effects in Illustrator. The hardest part was making the curl read at very tiny sizes, since a logo should be equally effective on a huge banner and on a tiny business card.
I used the font HoratioD in bold for this, but I slanted the ends of the V down a little. I thought the straight horizontal was a little too severe.
In light of today’s “thing,” today’s instruction is: draw something flat and then give it dimension using light and shadow.
